Cheerleading Tryouts Draw 400

JOYCE DENIS Correspondent The athletic field at Coral Gables High is reverberating with the energetic cheering of the aspiring junior varsity cheerleaders. Every year the orientation program draws 400 or more anxious sophomore girls; gradually, however, after repeated work-out sessions, the group diminishes and approximately one hundred girls remain. From the tired but hopeful hundred, 25 will be chosen to compete for the 12 coveted junior varsity cheering positions. Practice will be in session for the next two weeks and announcement of the squad the day before Christmas recess commences. OPENS RANKS Not only are cheerleaders in training but the precision drill team, Cavilettes, is opening ranks for junior girls qualified for the marching positions.
