Mr. and Mrs. John Gurley (he's the Woolworth's manager on the Mile) have Mr. and Mrs. George Walker with them until Dec. 12th. Mrs. Walker is the former Miss Jo Anne Gurley and her husband is a 1960 UM graduate. Mr. Walker, an electronics engineer, is with General Electric Co. and assigned to the Air Force. Until recently the Walkers were stationed at Las Vegas and now have been transferred to Mr. Gurley's hometown county in North Carolina at Goldsboro where Seymour Johnson Air Force Base is located. Three-year-old Daniel Lee Walker brought Grandpa a souvenir from the gambling West, a workable cigaret lighter with a roulette wheel on the reverse side (also workable).

Jean Sullivan, Girl Friday to University Inn's Al Singer, finally got her foot out of a cast last week and complained, "It hurts worse than ever!" She broke her right foot about six weeks ago at a convention on the Beach and has had to hobble about since.

VIOLETTE

Airman Basic Claude R. Violette II, son of Mrs. Claude M. Violette, 902 Lisbon St., is being reassigned to Ent Air Force Base, Col., for training and duty as a heating specialist. He recently completed basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.

Dr. R. T. Bovard is entering the homestretch on his personal injury. He pulled a tendon in his shoulder at a dental convention in New Orleans and had to have surgery on his right arm when he returned (that was October). Dec. 15 is the date he's slated to shuck his medical casing.

A cocktail party honoring Rabbi and Mrs. Hershel Brooks of Temple Zamora was given last week by Mr. and Mrs. Ben Nonkin, 4410 Riviera Dr. A bar and buffet surrounded the swimming pool where approximately 300 people were served. Friends assisting the hostess were Mrs. Leah Friedson, 2222 SW 31st Ave.; Mrs. Samuel Rozeen, 4936 SW 4th St.; Mrs. Harry Green, 611 Jeronimo Dr.; Mrs. Charles Fritz, 648 Palermo Ave.; Mrs. Sam Miller, 7890 SW 14th Ter.; and Mrs. Stanley Silvern, 4947 Riviera Dr.

BARTON BROWN

Mert and Willa Madden, 5311 Maggiore St., will fly to South Bend, Ind., for the Christmas holidays, to visit Mert's two sisters. Another couple, Dr. and Mrs. William P. Smith, 1230 Blue Rd., is planning to fly with them as far as Bowling Green, Ky., Airport. The Smiths have family and relatives who live not too far from Bowling Green.

First Gables contractor, 83-year-old W. B. Campbell was admitted to Doctors Hospital Saturday where he is undergoing treatment for a heart condition. His daughter-in-law Mrs. Robert Campbell with whom he lives at 6320 Coral Way, says he wants to come home, but she is afraid his condition has not improved enough. However, his friends can visit him in Room 133 at the hospital from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

Mrs. R. H. Ebsary is giving a crystal shower and luncheon at her home today (Thursday), 6901 Capila St., honoring Beth Railsback, bride-elect of Jerry Munson of St. Petersburg.

The Chancel Choir of the First United Presbyterian Church of Coral Gables will perform the Christmas portion of Handel's Messiah at 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Wilford Smith, minister of music, will conduct with Julia Sells at the organ and Betty Stoltz at the piano. Clark Pertain will be tenor soloist, with Stuart Wilson, bass; David Swartz baritone; Jean Commings, alto, and Ruth Higgins and Mary Ann Jervis, soprano.

Three local women have been designated "Women of Compassion" for leadership in the current fund-drive for construction of the new Florence Crittenton Home in South Miami.
