Jaycee wives making plans for charity cocktail party

The Coral Gables Jaycees Auxiliary is planning a charity cocktail party on Sept. 15, with all proceeds going to the restoration of Coral Gables House (Merrick Manor). The celebration, which will welcome in the football season, will be held at the Brother's Two Cellar Lounge at 885 SE 14th St., from 5 to 9 p.m. Drinks will be $1.25, and there will be free admission, free hors d'oeuvres and door prizes.

Emergency A new Coral Gables Hospital emergency department brochure is now available in Spanish and English at the hospital and throughout many doctor's offices in the Gables. The brochure details policies and procedures of the emergency department, and basic information residents should know about Coral Gables Hospital. A separate listing of emergency numbers for quick reference is provided, including the Coral Gables Police Department. Randle-Eastern Ambulance, City of Coral Gables Fire and Rescue and the hospital. Volunteers The Cancer Information Service, a joint project offering information and assistance to any individual concerning cancer and related problems, is seeking specially selected volunteers from the Gables area to help with the project. Volunteers will be working at the American Cancer Society building, o SE 13th St., and after being accepted into the training program will be asked to work a minimum of one four-hour shift each week. For information call 547-6920. Learning aid Parents of children with specific learning disabilities may need help in learning to understand and effectively cope with their children and the effect the problem has on the family. The Coral Gables Chapter of the Association of Children with Learning Disabilities (ACLD) sponsors a monthly parent discussion group under the guidance of professionals to help these parents and children. The first of these meetings, held on the third Wednesday of each month, will be Sept. 15, in the library of Ponce de Leon Junior High School from 8 to 10 p.m. The meetings are free and open to the public. Gables ACLD also provides a hotline and recorded message about specific learning disabilities available to all residents. The Hot-Line number is 531-3311 and is in service daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Tel-Med Tape can be heard by dialing 374-2880, Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. CG Knights Installation ceremonies for newly-elected officers of the Knights of Columbus, Coral Gables Council 3274, will be held at the Council Hall, 270 Catalo-nia Ave., Saturday, Sept. 18, beginning at 6 p.m. A dinner and dance will be held after the installation of officers. All brothers, their families and friends are urged to attend the festivities. New shop The grand opening of the Weiss Hallmark Card Shop at the Franklin International Plaza, 255 Alhambra Circle, is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 9 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
