Ponce to merge with CG Chamber?

Bruce Lancaster Ponce to merge with CG Chamber? The possible merger of the Ponce De Leon Development Association and the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce will be discussed at the next association meeting, Sept. 13. At the same meeting, members will select new officers for the 1976-1977 year. "It is my feeling that the Ponce Development Association is not as active as in years past because there just isn't that much to do on Ponce," said Bruce Lancaster, president of the group. "Many of the members of the Association are also members of the chamber and many times we are duplicating our efforts," he said. Lancaster, who heads up the board of the Ponce group, is also treasurer of the Coral Gables Chamber. He feels a committee within the Chamber would be better for the area. During the last couple of years, the Association has been involved in several Ponce projects, including the Ponce de Leon fountain and the traffic light near Coral Gables Elementary School. Lancaster, who is vice president of Coral Gables Laundry, said several members of the association requested the consideration of a merger. "The elections will be held Sept. 13 and the general membership will have the opportunity to voice an opinion on this matter," he said. "We haven't approached the Chamber, because we need to find out what our members want first."
