Fascell seeking academy applicants

All South Dade young men and women who want to enter the Army, Navy, Air Force and Merchant Marine academies in 1977, must file applications with Congressman Dante B. Fascell as soon as possible, but no later than Friday, Oct. 29. Fascell will nominate a principal and nine alternates to each of the military academies. A different procedure governs the nomination of candidates for appointment to the Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York. The 10 candidates nominated by Fascell will then compete with other Floridians for eight Merchant Marine scholarships allotted to Florida. Applicants must be permanent residents of the 15th Congressional District, South Dade and Monroe County, be a U.S. citizen, single and of good moral character and be at least 17 years of age, but not over 22 as of July 1, 1977. Fascell requires College Board test scores and results of a physical examination from all who are interested in attending a military school. Once those requirements have been met, applicants will meet with Fascell's Citizens Rating Board for a personal interview. For an application, write to Congressman Dante B.
