Adult classes: The curtain's going up and the talent can be yours
Entertainment isn't always watching the curtain going up on someone else's talent. You can learn to throw a pot, glide across a ballroom, silkscreen a t-shirt or explore marine pools by selecting from the wide variety of courses offered this fall by South Dade private and community organizations. Registration for these courses is underway now, so glance over the list below, pick a skill you'd like to learn and sign up for a whole new experience. For science buffs Anybody who has ever looked at the sky at night and wondered about the stars or watched a bird build a nest will profit from the Museum of Science fall offerings. Courses range from history and crafts to photography and life sciences. Astronomy classes include two introductory courses, one in Spanish and one in English, and a course on constellations, including sessions in the planetarium. A course in landscape design is intended to have practical application in the student's own back yard, while enrollees in the sketching and water colors classes will set up easles at scenes of natural beauty for inspiration and instruction, History courses include Egyptology, South Florida Natural History and Ancient Near East. The six-week classes, ranging in price from $15 to $40 for Museum of Science members and from $24 to $50 for non-members, begin Sept. 18. For information on registration and a brochure, call 854-4242 Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Classes are held Saturdays and evenings at the Museum of Science. Pottery for plants encourages the student with the green thumb to design and produce his own hanging planters, garden pottery and patio objects. A series of color slide lectures designed to emphasize the impact of the past on contemporary art is the format for the seminar entitled Gateways to Modern Art.
