New cantor sings at Temple Beth Tov
Cantor William Golembe, a man credited with having a beautiful voice, recently joined Temple Beth Tov in South Dade. The new cantor will be singing at the Temple during High Holy Day Services. Raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., along with five brothers and sis three sisters, Cantor Golembe comes from a strict orthodox Jewish family. His twin brother, also a cantor, is associated with Beth Hillel of Margate, Fla. As a choir boy in his youth, Cantor Golembe sang with the greatest cantors of the age. He was a member of Yeshiva Reines in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn for 40 years. Since the Cantor moved to Florida in 1974, he has been active at the Homestead Jewish Center. He organized the Brotherhood Club, there and became its first president. He and his wife Rhoda have two children, a boy and a girl. Their son Barry is a medical doctor, who is in his third year of residence at the Medical College of Virginia. He will specialize in Hemotology (the study of blood-forming organs). Their daughter Ronnie is a biochemist who has been a member of the medical team at New York Hospital, where the cure for nephrosis, a kidney disease in children, was discovered. Reservations for seating to hear Cantor Golembe during High Holy Days must be made by calling Tom Gruberg at 266-1375 or the Temple at 261-9871. Temple Beth Tov is located at 6438 SW 8th St.
