When we called the James L. Mooney household at 3801 Segovia St. this week to ask about a Lions Club matter (Mr. Mooney is editor of the club bulletin), we also asked Mrs. M. if she'd had any company. She has indeed. There was a Memorial Day supper picnic in the backyard with friends from Birmingham, Ala., Mr. and Mrs. John Frazier and their three daughters, Charlotte, Sharon and Ann. The Willard R. Brown's daughter Katharine joined the group, which included Mrs. Frazier's mother, Mrs. Walter R. Steel of Pittsburgh, Pa. Now the Mooneys are looking forward to the arrival next Wednesday of their daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Brown, and children Stephanie and Valerie. They're driving from Kansas City and will spend a good part of the summer here. Valerie and Stephanie are the only girl grandchildren while son Stuart at Camp Hill, Pa., and his wife even it up with two boys, Kevin and Stuart Jr., the latter of whom just graduated with honors from grade school. Later this month, the Mooneys will have Mrs. M's nieces from Minneapolis, Mrs. Wayne Peterson and Mrs. Jane Cornelius and children Kathy and Dick Cornelius. * * * Lawrence Everett Hess, son of Mr. and Mrs. Everett Hess, 423 Palermo Ave.; Neal Wil- liam Knight Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Neal W. Knight, 3900 Alhambra Cir.; and Dean Scanlan Wright, son of Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Dean Wright, 824 Anastasia Ave., were among 1,100 persons receiving degrees at Duke University commencement Monday. The three Gables men received A.B. degrees. * * * Jack Gillingham of the Southeastern General Agency Inc., 932 Ponce de Leon Blvd., was graduated May 28 from the Continental National Insurance Institute in Chicago. He studied there for a month. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Jack Flanagan of Indianapolis were guests of Mr. and Mrs. O. K. Houston, 520 Minorca Ave. The Houston's son, Lt. Richard C. Houston, is away on sea duty with home port Norfolk. MISS COLE Barbara Jane Cole, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. J. Kenneth Cole of Coral Gables, graduated from Miss Harris' Florida School for Girls at Stuart. * * * Judy Collins, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Thomas Clark Collins, 540 Miller Rd., has graduated from Stetson College at Deland. * * * Off for a two-week vacation in New York is Susan Ross, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Ross, 1530 Miller Rd. * * * Mrs. James Walsh of 1429 Medina Ave. is in charge of arranging bridge and dessert on the third Thursday of the month for the benefit of the Musicians Club of America. June 21st is the next date and the time is 1 p.m., 303 Minorca Ave. The public is invited. Reservations may be made through Mrs. Walsh at HI 5-1164. Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Lapin will be leaving soon for their summer at Blowing Rock where Mr. Lapin conducts the orchestra at the Green Park Hotel. En route, they'll stop in Savannah to see their daughter and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Walberg. Mrs. Walberg is expecting her first child and it will be the first grandchild for the Lapins. * * * Three Gables boys are among 31 students from Florida who're candidates for degrees at Yale University's 261st commencement Monday. They are Joseph Harry Akerman, 813 Sistina Ave., bachelor of engineering; Henry Byron Garrison, 721 Catalonia Ave., bachelor of science, and Leroy Thomas Howe, 1002 Madrid St., bachelor of divinity. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Gant Fausett, 909 Santiago St., have gone to Auburn, Ala., for the graduation of their son, Jimmy, from Auburn University. Jimmy will be cited for his leadership in the School of Architecture, and will receive the Alpha Rho Chi gold medal award. He is a member of Kappa Sigma social fraternity and also of the Squires Figures, honor society. * * * Demaris Marshall, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard A. Marshall, 3704 Monserrate St., is home for the summer from the University of Tennessee where she has completed her junior year. * * * Sheldon E. Woodward Jr. is leaving for Orlando to participate in the National Pee Wee Golf Tournament this weekend. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon E. Woodward, 1360 Mendavia Ave. Col. Williams Pfc. Jakeman Col. William M. Williams, whose wife is the former Catherine Shields, 1123 Marianna Ave. graduated June 1 from the U.S. Air Force Senior Professional School, Air University War College, Maxwell AFB, Ala. Colonel Williams is being assigned to Goose Bay AB, Labrador, as base commander. * * * Pvt. Raymond H. Starling, USMC, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond H. Starling, 530 Palermo Ave. and Pvt. William C. Jakeman, son of Mrs. Rosemary G. Jakeman, 1401 Ortega Ave., completed recruit training May 17 at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. * * * James L. Pardee III, son of Mr. and Mrs. John P. Riddle, 1309 Astoria Ave., will graduate Monday at Middlebury College, Vermont. A history major, Pardee is a letterman in varsity tennis and a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He will be commissioned a second lieutenant in the Military Police Corps under the Army ROTC program for a two year duty tour.
