BY EMMA AUBERT COLE author of "The Modern Bride Book of Etiquette and Entertaining" IF YOU WANT a picturesque garden wedding, and if you live in a reliable climate, you can proceed lightheartedly with your plans. Even if your climate is unpredictable, a garden wedding can still be yours, as we shall see. Supposing you have the advantage of a reliable climate, the first thing to do is to choose the spot for the altar. A large and handsome tree might form the setting, or a tall hedge, a stone wall edged with blossoming plants, an arbor at the end of a grassy vista, or a mass of flowering shrubs. Whatever you decide, choose a spot where the sun will not shine in the eyes of the guests and where there is adequate lawn space to accommodate them. If there is no ideal spot for an altar convenient to the necessary lawn area, an arbor, twined with green vines, may easily be erected. You will need a table covered with a white cloth to serve as a temporary altar and a kneeling bench with white cushions. Your clergyman will advise you as to what other accessories may be needed for the service of your faith. It is often advisable to have a heavy white canvas runner to form an aisle for the processional. But be sure that it is firmly stretched in place. At a wedding I went to last sum-
