bringing up baby® | how to sun your son or heiress
Hints collected by Mrs. Dan Gerber, Mother of 5 With summer days showing longer rays, tanning sessions are in order for sun-bathing beauties. Suggestions for the soft-skinned set: • Timely tip. Start with two minutes the first day, divided between topside and backside. Increase by two minutes each day. Limit exposure to 30 minutes no matter how tan you think baby is. • Position counts. When baby's on his back, the top of his head should be toward the sun, eyes away from direct sunlight. A pad on dry ground is preferable to baby's carriage. Summer appetites usually rise to every mealtime occasion when you serve foods that look good and taste good. Easy as 1-2-3 with Gerber Strained Foods. Colors are delightful ... flavors delectable. All due to the special Gerber methods of preparation. Fruits, vegetables, meats, high meat dinners, vegetable-meat combinations and desserts make up the luscious list. When served in wide variety they provide your baby with the well-rounded nourishment he needs. Summertime or any time, babies need protein for strength, growth and muscle development. Tasty ways to give your baby protein: Gerber High Meat Dinners. Lots of savory meat is subtly blended with garden-good vegetables for wonderful flavor and a goodly variety of nourishing food values. Duo of cooler-offers for cherubs. You can't beat the heat completely but you can take some of the swelter out of summer. (1) A nursery shaded against morning sun will be cooler for that afternoon nap. (2) After nap-time, a cooling sip of a Gerber Fruit Juice will help chase away heat and post-nap blues. Note from Dan Gerber. According to nutritionists your baby needs all the essential amino acids (supplied by high quality proteins) to maintain a normal growth pattern. Gerber High Protein Cereal is a good example of a food which provides these amino acids. In developing this special cereal our research staff spent many months studying the protein values of various ingredients. Those selected offered a good balance of protein factors. Important: Gerber prepares over 100 baby foods—infant formulas, cereals, strained and junior foods—to meet your baby's nutritional needs. We're proud to say: "Babies are our business ...our only business!"TM Gerber BABY FOODS FREMONT, MICHIGAN
Travel OUTDOORS | Want to combine a good | Saint Andrews, Kasumigaseki
ONE THING about golfers—they make the most hap travelers if they can just find a championship course at a safe distance from the guidebooks, museums, and monuments. And what courses you can find, right outside most of the world's great cities! It's only fair to warn you that, while some of these courses are public, many are not, so you should go prepared with a letter of introduction from your club manager or a handicap certificate to make sure you get all the courtesies of a club. If you're going to Scotland, you will undoubtedly want to try St. Andrews, the oldest and still one of the toughest of all courses. With the wind changing direction about every half hour, this course calls for ingenuity, and you'll soon understand why great golfers can never forget bunkers such as the Principal's Nose and Ginger Beer and The Coffin (originally carved out by sheep huddling against the dunes to get out of the biting wind). On the other side of the world, Kasumigaseki, Japan's finest, is 40 miles from Tokyo and has some of the most formidable traps in the world, as well as pretty (and rugged) girl caddies, and two fairways—one for summer and one for winter. Along the same route, you should go a round at the Royal Hong Kong Club, if only to claim, when you're back among your cronies, that you sliced one off towards Gavea means the "crow's nest," a magnificent course between the mountain and the sea, a few miles from Rio.
