Chamber breakfast to support Hurricanes

In a spirit of close cooperation with the University of Miami, the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce will dedicate its monthly membership breakfast to launching a support campaign for the U.M. Hurricane football team. The breakfast, at 7:45 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 26 in the Polly Davis Cafeteria, will include appearances by UM president Dr. Henry King Stanford, Athletic Director Pete Elliot and head football Coach Carl Selmer. Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Tom Chegin said Coral Gables Vice Mayor Al Jacobson will present a city proclamation at the breakfast, naming Monday, Sept. 13, as Support the Hurricanes Day. On Thursday, Sept. 16, an 8 p.m. pep rally at University Park will cheer the team before its game on Saturday, Sept. 18. The Chamber will hold a buffet dinner at the University Inn before the game and will provide three buses to transport ticket-holding Chamber members to and from the Orange Bowl stadium. Chegin said Chamber members without tickets can arrange to purchase them through the Chamber office. The Support the Hurricane activites have been arranged by the Chamber's Unimersity Relations Committee, headed by John Emerson, and the breakfast is being sponsored by Wallachs, Dick Richmond, which is headed by Chamber Retail Merchants Committee Chairman Dick Swetonic. — ERICA MEYER
