Benny and Linda Jeffus, he a Gables firefighter and she a mother of two, joined together as a family at sunrise.

Young couple wed at Crandon

By ELIZABETH OWEN Staff Writer The sun was just beginning to peer over the horizon, and a soft breeze was blowing through the wispy palm trees. Just as the huge orange ball peaked in its morning ascent, two sea gulls glided across the pink sky and Benny Jeffus and Linda Clouse exchanged lifelong vows. "Alone, we are two seperate individuals Trying to survive. Together we are strength, truth and nature In a world of love." The ceremony was brief but significant, held on Crandon Park Beach at sunrise, Saturday, July 31. Benny, a Coral Gables fireman, and Linda, his bride, repeated the words they had written, while family and friends looked on. The couple faced the rising sun — accompanied by Linda's two children, Kevin, 8, and Heidi, 5 — while the wedding guests stood behind. In minutes it was over, and the foursome was a family. "I've always liked both the moon and the new life," said Linda, a petite blond with dazzling green eyes. "Sunrise is my favorite time of day... I used to get up and go horseback riding on the beach at sunrise." Benny's mother, Mrs. Benny Jeffus, made a colossal carrot cake from scratch for the ceremony, and Linda's mother, Mrs. Earl Casey, made a delicate goose egg ornament depicting the couple on the sunlit beach. Clusters of baby's breath, yellow tea roses and daisies were arranged in conch shells — also by Mrs. Casey — for table decorations. It was through horses — Linda's Arabian horses — that the couple met. Benny, a farrier before he became a fireman, used to shoe Linda's horses regularly. Benny said he didn't hesitate to take on the responsibility of Linda's children by her first marriage. "I prefer it this way," said Benny. "I didn't want children of my own, and having a family from the start is perfect." The couple took Kevin and Heidi on the first week of their honeymoon, and lived every minute. "We wanted my children to share in our happiness," added Linda. "Benny is wonderful with them. They used to be shy children, but with him, they never stop chatting." The newlyweds went on their wedding trip by car, and traveled to Mississippi, Tennessee, Arkansas, Colorado, back to Kentucky, then to Gainesville and home. They've set up house on a large lot on SW 92nd Avenue, where they have a stable and two Arabian horses.
