Here's How Miracle Mile Got It's Name
Why do they call it the "Miracle Mile?" Why is the same street called "Coral Way" only a few blocks farther along? "Miracle Mile" is the official name for a stretch of Coral Way which extends from Douglas Road to LeJeune Road. For this unforgettable and highly appopriate name, Coral Gables is indebted to the promotional wizard who first proposed that the street be developed as a swank shopping area—George K. Zain. Coral Way extends for many miles through parts of three different cities plus unincorporated county areas. It soon became clear to Zain and his associates that any merchant along the entire street could cash in on advertising and promotion which referred simply to Coral Way. So a search was made for a name which could be applied solely to the limited length of Coral Gables' smart new business street. The name "Miracle Mile" was the happy result. Modestly, Zain disclaims originality. The name has been used elsewhere, he suggests. But the picturesque "zing" of the name is so perfectly matched to the story-book character of the street that the marriage has been a highly successful one. All over America, when the name "Miracle Mile" is heard, most people think of Coral Gables.
