'OMEN ON THE AUCTION BLOCK was a common sight in England during the early 1700's and the scene such as this one, came to life in South Miami recently. The Sunrisers, a choral group at South Miami Junior High School, presented their version of the opera "Martha" for the Parent Teacher's Association. The opera, by Flotow, unfolds in England during the reign of Queen Anne in the dawn of the 18th Century. In this scene, the sheriff (Richard Swift) stands on a high mound of dirt as he points with his sword to the women he is auctioning. The women are, left to right, Nancy Peach, Nancy Schmeisser, Barbara Duckworth and Agnes Tibor.
THE CROSS CURRENTS OF LOVE unfold in this scene from the opera "Martha," recently performed by the Sunrisers at South Miami Junior High School. Standing on the steps and unconcerned with the proposals of her suitor is, far left, Davida Mirman (Martha). Her suitor, with hat in hand and on bended knees, is Howard Zacur (Lionel). Not too sure of the wisdom of this love affair are Carole Ferrell (Nancy) and Drew [?]rris (Sir Tristan), who play Martha's maid and cousin, respectively.
