New Group Is Formed; Born of Street Gripes
A new civic organization has been formed in the wake of the City's road and street improvement program in which abutting property owners are assessed most of the costs. Mrs. Barbara Miner, 1715 Granada Blvd., wife of a Miami private detective, and Constable from District 2, is president. Other officers of the as yet unnamed organization are Mrs. James McCarthy, 1224 Granada Blvd., vice president; and Miss Lula McLendon, area civic leader, treasurer. A secretary will be elected later. Former Miami city manager and city attorney, J. W. Watson Jr., 1311 Granada Blvd., is advisor to the group and James Dunn, legal counsel. They met April 11 for the first time to organize. Thirty-five people attended. Although the group met to oppose assessment for street repaving, Mrs. Miner said, the base of the organization was expanded to include civic problems and membership opened to all Gableites. "We will participate in all civic affairs," said Mrs. Miner. "Anyone may join."

DANTE FASCELL PROVEN LEADERSHIP FOR DADE AND THE NATION
CUBAN EMBARGO The Fascell amendment to the Foreign Assistance Act gave President Kennedy the ability to place a total embargo on Communist Cuba. This embargo has had a disastrous effect on Castro's plans. The economy of Communist Cuba is all but ruined because of the President's embargo. FOUGHT AID TO COMMUNIST COUNTRIES Dante Fascell sponsored an amendment to the Foreign Aid Act which prohibits any assistance to countries dominated by international communism. OPPOSITION TO RED CHINA Introduced and enacted into law a Fascell resolution re-affirming congressional opposition to Communist China's admission to the United Nations. CONTROL OF FOREIGN AID Dante led the fight and supported legislation placing stringent controls on our foreign aid program. He believes in loans instead of grants to friendly countries; closer internal audit controls and a complete inspection system. Re-elect CONGRESSMAN FASCELL PD. POL. ADV.
