by helen reynolds society editor Dr. and Mrs. Jay F. W. Pearson have left on a four weeks tour in Europe. As Dr. Pearson said, it's a merger of 1961 and '62 vacations, but he signed 750 certificates for honor students, ere he left. The Pearsons, who reside in the UM's president's residence, 2475 Bayshore Dr., (a gift to the UM), jetted to Lisbon, and the high points of their trip were to see Vesuvius, the Acropolis, the Jungfrau and the Berlin Wall." They will return the latter part of May, in plenty of time for Dr. Pearson to preside over the University of Miami's commencement exercises. * * * Steve Hessen is proud of his four children but he is prouder of the fact that he is a South Miamian, about to move into his new home just finished and next door to his former home on Davis Road. The Hessens had been residing at 6900 Veronese St., Coral Gables, until the new home was ready. Mr. and Mrs. Hessen are the parents of Steve Jr., Victoria, "Vici," Virginia Ann, and Andrew, Andy." * * * Capt. and Mrs. Jerry Wood, 1001 Coral Way entertained for Mr. and Mrs. Donald Nyrop of Minneapolis who vacationed recently at Key Biscayne for a week with their four children, Nancy 13; Bill, 9; and the twins, seven-year-old Karen and Kathy. The Woods entertained at an Easter egg hunt and buffet supper. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Douglas E. Staples, 901 Roderigo Ave., gave a "twist" party Saturday evening at their home for a group of friends and Peggy Persandi did one of her famous strip acts, appearing in a white bathing suit, with a string of beads around her neck, short white gloves on and sandals. She began by taking the beads off one at a time; then she turned down the cuff of each of her white gloves an inch and then slipped out of her sandals, saying, "From head to foot, I have stripped." Peggy's husband George is an attorney in Coral Gables. The Staples are interesting people to know. They are English, born in London, have that catching accent, and have lived in their home on Roderigo for several years.
