3 Officials Due Again To Retire

Two key people in the Coral Gables administration and a police lieutenant are due for retirement again in July after being extended recently by the Retirement Board. They are Transportation Director Lee Davis, Librarian Margaret Beaton and Police Lt. Floyd Neff. All three were extended for three months to July 1. Davis and Neff had been extended before, but Miss Beaton was being extended for the first time. Miss Beaton has been a City employe only since July 1954, but the City made her employment as librarian retroactive to June 1928 when she started work for the Woman's Club. The club operated the library before the City took it over. Davis has been employed by the City for 25 years and Lieutenant Neff joined the force 27 years ago.

Stamp Center Takes Half Of Curlee's; 3rd Here

A stamp redemption store, the city's third, will occupy half of the vacant Curlee building at Miracle Mile and Galiano Street. The lease became effective Tuesday. Lessee is E.F. McDonald Co. of Dayton, Ohio, whose trading stamps were introduced locally a few weeks ago when A&P joined the parade of groceries giving premium stamp with purchases. Some $60,000 will be spent on remodeling, according to a spokesman. A wall is being restored in the Curlee building to create two identical stores, 50 x 125 feet. McDonald will occupy the western half. The corner store has not yet been leased. U.S. stamps savers will redeem 100 million items of merchandise this year—nearly 320,000 items a day. One firm alone, S & H, claims that 27 1/2 million families save its stamps. The Gables' two other stamp redemption centers are located next door to one another on Ponce de Leon Boulevard, a few blocks north of Miracle Mile.

BECKY'S IN

Becky Doyle-Quinn, Gables High graduate of 1961, was elected Tuesday night as the sophomore representative to the Women's Government Association at the University of Florida, Gainesville. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Quinn, were routed from bed by a near-midnight phone call. "I got more votes than the other two girls combined," Becky reported proudly. She served in the same post in this her freshman year. The Becky Doyle-Quinn byline will be appearing in The Times again beginning the first week in June. She'll rejoin our staff for the summer as a reporter.
