Douglas Road Scheduled--If

Narrow, bumpy Douglas Road is scheduled to be improved-if the Metro Commission gives the green light in the upcoming County budget. The heavily traveled highway had been proposed to be improved last year under the secondary road system but dropped later for lack of funds. Proposed for improvement is the stretch from South Dixie Highway to Tamiami Trail at an estimated cost of $600,000. An additional $50,000 is proposed to be spent for right of way to NW Seventh Street. The improvement has been jumped from 17th to eighth place in the secondary road priority list. County road officials said this week that bits and pieces of rights of way are still needed on the portion between South Dixie and Tamiami Trail, but they felt confident they could be obtained in time for construction if approved in the 1962-63 budget. The County budget must be adopted in July.

GRASS FIRES, once commonplace in Coral Gables are getting scarcer. This one next to a building owned by Mrs. Lillian Frolic, 340 Sevilla, scorched the outside paint. Firemen T. R. Hamm, and G. W. Moore help put it out Monday. (Times Photo).

High School Week Set

The largest enrollment - 3,400 students - in Coral Gables High School's history will require about $65,000 extra this summer. That's when work will start on two biology labs, with an estimated cost of $35,000, and addition of a third serving line in the cafeteria, slated to cost some $30,000. Both the labs and the cafeteria expansion are due to the expected enrollment next September, of 3,400 students, which will be 400 more than at present. The addition of two labs will give Gables High a total of four.

Metro Gets New Man

JAMES PAISLEY James Paisley of the Gables was recently named chief of the Research Division for the Metro Planning Department. He replaced Robert Benner, who joined private employment. Both he and Benner had worked under Dr. Reinhold Wolff, former head of the University of Miami Bureau of Business and Economic Research. The new county planning chief was graduated from the U.M. in 1950 with a BBA and his masters in 1958. He joined Metro after working for the former research firm of Julian Langer.
