LEISURE LIVING IN CORAL GABLES
The hollow plunk of a tennis racket; the sharp click of a golf ball; the exhilarating satisfaction of doing. Country Clubs and Garden Clubs. Beaches and public pools; splashes and flashing tans and the vibration of a diving board just vacated. Symphonies, dramas, ballets... the sounds and sights of beauty... art galleries, flashing with color and composition. Theatres, shops, restaurants. So many places to go. A wealth of choice and opportunity and things to see, and learn, and do in those precious, earned moments of spare time... barbecues, coffee and conversation... moments so well spent, so rewardingly enjoyed in Coral Gables.
Coral Gables Abounds With Recreational, Cultural Facilities
There are many reasons why Coral Gables is known as the cultural and educational center of South Florida. It is the home of the University of Miami, a growing educational and research institution with a student body of almost 13,000. The community also has an excellent system of public, private and parochial schools, and its Youth Center has been nationally acclaimed. Adding to Coral Gables' unexcelled leisure life are the Ring Theater, a symphony orchestra, several little theatre groups, five movie theaters, the notable Lowe Art Gallery, music and garden clubs, a well equipped library of 38,000 volumes, women's clubs and many civic and fraternal organizations. Public facilities also contribute greatly to the free-time pleasures of resident and visitor alike. Over 10% of the city's area is devoted to public parks, golf courses, beaches, etc. For those unacquainted with all that is available to them in Coral Gables, here is a partial list: GOLF-Nine-hole Granada Golf Course, municipally operated. Riviera Country Club, 18-holes, private. Biltmore Country Club, municipal, 18-holes. MATHESON HAMMOCK - Operated by the county, it is one of the most beautiful tropical beaches in the country. Full facilities, life guard protected, children's area, complete marina. VENETIAN POOL-Located at 2701 DeSoto Blvd., it is in the heart of the city. With its rambling pool, grotto, bridge, and beach, it is one of the most beautiful swimming "holes" anywhere. SALVADORE PARK-City operated. Superb tennis facilities, handball court, shuffleboard, playground, and picnic area. All States Friendship Club for Senior Citizens of the city meets at the clubhouse for social activities. FAIRCHILD TROPICAL GARDENS-The land, a strip along Biscayne Bay south of Matheson Hammock, was donated to garden enthusiasts for the culture and display of plants collected from the tropical belt around the world.
