Jaycees Honor Two Gableites
IT WAS A BIG MOMENT when Loretta Sheehy received the "Good Government" Award at a recent Coral Gables Jaycees affair. Making the presentation to the Coral Gables City Clerk is (right) City Manager L. W. Robinson Jr., who won the award last year. At left is Richard Fuller, Jaycee president. FOR DISTINGUISHED SERVICE to his community, George M. Wilson (far left) received this plaque recently from the Coral Gables Jaycees. Presenting the award is last year's winner, attorney Frank W. Guilford Jr. (center). Looking on is Jaycee vice president Larry Adams. One of the first women to hold a high administrative post at Coral Gables City Hall and a 35-year-old account executive active in community affairs won the "Good Government" and "Distinguished Service" Awards recently at the Coral Gables Jaycee banquet. Loretta Sheehy, the Coral Gables City Clerk, and George M. Wilson, 510 Barbarossa Ave., were honored Jan. 19 at the Coral Gables Country Club. The Jaycees also chose Robert J. Bradley with Florida Power and Light as "Boss of the Year." Certificates of merit were presented to THE TIMES, Coral Gables Youth Center, Waco Motors, Holsum Bakeries and University Federal Savings and Loan Association. The "Good Government" Award goes to the person who strives to make Coral Gables government as good as possible. The "Distinguished Service" Award is presented to the person who serves Coral Gables by taking part in a broad span of community activities. Miss Sheehy, a long-time Gables resident, has been working for the City of Coral Gables even before it opened its City Hall in 1928. The native of Waterbury, Conn., who was educated in convents and business schools in the north came to Coral Gables in 1923. She first worked as a secretary for Coral Gables, Inc., in the old administration building on Ponce de Leon Blvd. and Miracle Mile. Shortly afterward she went to work as a secretary for the city in what is now the American Legion building. It wasn't too long before 1928 rolled around and Coral Gables could boast of its own City Hall. It was then the young Irishwoman went to work as secretary to the City Manager and worked in that capacity until 1954. It was in 1954 that the City Commission, in recognition of Miss Sheehy's work, named her Deputy Clerk. Miss Sheehy was appointed Acting City Clerk several years later and the City Commission made it permanent when it named her City Clerk in January, 1959. As City Clerk, Miss Sheehy is responsible for custody of ordinances and minutes of the Commission meetings, as well as supervising registrations and elections. Wilson, with the firm of Hayden, Stone and Co., is engaged in a large number of varied community activities. He's an honorary member of the Board of Directors of the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce and on its governmental affairs committee. Wilson is also on the Gables' People to People Committee which is allied with Cartegena, Colombia, in a good will program. He is director in charge of organizing the March of Dimes campaign in Coral Gables and active in soliciting employe funds for United Fund.

The two towers of the famous Chartres Cathedral are topped by totally dissimilar spires - one Romanesque and one Gothic. The Cathedral was built during a surge of religious fervor in the 12th and 13th centuries, the National Geographic Magazine says.
Never hard-boil eggs. The Florida Egg Commission marketing specialist suggests that eggs are better when leisurely cooked in barely simmering water - then promptly cooled under cold running water.

Your Income Tax Refund Could Depend On Your Choice of Advice
A STATEMENT ABOUT RETURNS When you pay for assistance in preparing your return you pay for advice-not secretarial service! The person who helps you make out your Income Tax Return could be just acting as a Secretary to write down what you tell him. Perhaps that is why his rates will depend on the length of the form he uses-Short or Long-BUT THIS IS NOT THE FUNCTION OF A TAX CONSULTANT. Bargain advice can cost hundreds. Probably one of the most important things a tax consultant does is help you decide which form to use! My rates are: $7:50 if you come to my office in my home. $12.00 if I come to your home. (For salary returns only). For this you will get expert advice as to legitimate deductions you may take, and the proper manner to complete honestly a return most favorable to you. By appointment only. Reuben Guberman 11320 SW 46th St. CA 1-7174 - Notary Public
