by helen reynolds society editor It's been quite a week for the George W. Harrell's Jr., of 2314 Ponce de Leon Blvd., with parties and showers for their son; George W. Harrell III, and his bride, the former Goldie M. Fernandez of Memphis. Goldie and George were married Thursday, Feb. 2, in the Miami Shores home of Judge Henry L. Oppenborn. The reception followed at the home of Mrs. Effie Fernandez, 2116 NW 42nd St. Friday night the bride was introduced to her new nieces and nephews "in-laws", who gave their Aunt Goldie a kitchen shower at the home of the groom's parents. Present were four children of Mr. and Mrs. Angelo Chieffi, 5160 SW 97th Ave., Angela, Jeanne, George and Toby, the four-year-old who brought his new auntie a paring knife with card saying "Don't cut your finger." Also present were the five children of the Lonnie Lee Walkers Jr., Joyce, Linda, Darleen, Marie and Lonnie Walker III... Saturday night, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Smith, of 4121 NW 21st Ave., entertained the newlyweds with a party and dance. * * * * Miss Kay Curtis returned to her home in Boston by jet flight Tuesday after a three weeks visit with Mrs. Martha L. Murray, 909 Algaringo Ave. Miss Curtis, who looks after scholarship ratings at Wellesley College, also visited friends on the West coast of Florida in in Belle Glade. * * * * Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lee Rice, of 2300 Tiger Tail Ct., Coconut Grove, have returned from a week or two in New Orleans, the visit mainly one of business for Robert. As for Rose, she visited all the historic spots of this city on the Mississippi River. Rose said little cards are now being posted on hotel guest rooms saying "Reserved for the Mardi Gras." So many guests want to stay over for the biggest day of the year in New Orleans. * * * *
ONCE A YEAR, DINNER AND DANCING
It will be the once a year Dutch treat dinner-dance Saturday night at the Country Club of Coral Gables. Hostesses will be members of the Club Women's Golf Association who will entertain their husbands. Cocktails at 6:30 p.m. will be followed by dinner at eight and dancing. Valentine motif with little lace fans for the ladies and red hearts for the gentlemen's lapels. Mrs. Stanley Lang is chairman and Mrs. Zola Gray is assistant. * * * *
VALLENTINE IS THEME
Valentine's Day will be observed with dinner and dancing Sunday at the House of the Americas, 1022 Salzedo St. Invitations in red announce the party hours from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. At the Riviera Country Club, invitations in red on white announce a formal Valentine Ball for Saturday with dinner from 7 to 9 p.m. and dancing from 9 to 1... At the Country Club of Coral Gables, it is announced that Charlie Spivak and his nationally known band will play Saturday-week, the 18th, featuring a "First Nighter" atmosphere.
St. Joseph's Villa To Aid Refugees
Mrs. H. Jack Coleman is chairman of the annual benefit luncheon and card party St. Joseph's Villa Auxiliary will give Thursday, Feb. 16. The party will be held at noon at the Country Club of Coral Gables. Mrs. Thomas Campbell is co-chairman. Mrs. J. C. Brawner, ticket chairman, may be reached for reservations at MO 1-4100. Due to the influx of Cuban refugees in the Greater Miami area, the Villa has been deluged with requests for aid for Cuban refugee children. The Auxiliary answered the SOS by transporting them to and from school and also entertaining them. Mrs. Homer Vincent Briggle of Coral Gables is this year's president of the Auxiliary. Mrs. Coleman, chairman of the luncheon party, is a past president of the Coral Gables Junior Woman's Club. MRS. H. JACK COLEMAN
Hourihans United At Nuptial Mass
MRS. GEORGE V. HOURIHAN Hourihans United At Nuptial Mass Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Leo McCarthy, 7625 SW 97th Ct., announce the marriage of their daughter, Sarah Melissa, to George Vincent Hourihan, son of Mrs. George D. Hourihan, 4120 SW 5th Ter., and the late Mr. Hourihan. The wedding, a nuptial mass, took place at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Church of the Little Flower. Miss Maureen Casey was maid of honor, Miss Judy Wilcox, Miss Merry Lynn Roberts and Miss Donna McCarthy, sister of the bride, were bridesmaids. Best Man Michael Weaver was best man. Ushers were Roger Hanna, George M. Dykes III, Charles MacGregor and Robert Gallagher. The reception followed in the Knights of Columbus Hall. The couple honeymooned at Naples on the West Coast. Miami Graduate Originally from Pittsburgh, the bride was graduated from Miami High School and attended Barry College and the University of Miami. At present she is assistant librarian of records at Doctors' Hospital. The groom, a member of a pioneer Miami family, graduated at Miami High School, attended the University of Florida and will be a candidate for graduation in June from the University of Miami, where he is a member of Sigma Nu, social fraternity, the Order of the Iron Eagle and the Knights of Columbus. He is presently employed by Burdine's.
Pilots' Wives Will Dance On Saturday
Eastern Airlines Pilot's Wives Club will hold its annual Sweetheart dinner dance Saturday at the Country Club of Coral Gables. Mrs. Robert J. Sullivan, 9450 SW Montgomery Dr., chairman, mentions the fact that trying to catch husbands of this group all at one time is an impossibility. The organization was formed in 1957 for the purpose of bringing together wives of the Eastern Airlines pilots in order to promote and encourage social life among members of the club. Mrs. Edward Rordam, Mrs. J. R. Mahon, Mrs. I. Hamblen and Mrs. G. Robertson are taking reservations. Mrs. R. C. Wolf and Mrs. Tim Ehlies are working on special decorations and favors.
Teachers' Fund Benefit
The Women's Division of the Miami-Dade Chamber of Commerce took over Studio "M" Playhouse Thursday evening, Feb. 2, for a performance of Warm Peninsula, a benefit for their Teachers' Scholarship fund. Mrs. William R. Pitts was hostess assisted by Mrs. Rosina Moseley, president; Mrs. E. A. Evans, director; Mrs. J. H. Martell, past president; Mrs. Marie Enterline, director; Mrs. Iolen Snow, director.
