Coral Gables Names Five To Transit Group

Five area leaders have been named to the newly created Coral Gables Citizens Transit Committee. They are Ray A. Morrisey Jr., 1421 Columbus Blvd.; Lyle T. Pritchard, 4516 University Dr.; Al Jacobson, 1243 Catalonia; M. Lewis Hall Jr., 2112 Country Club Prado, and John S. Inman, 6350 Killian Dr. Morrisey and Hall are local attorneys, Pritchard is a former member of the Zoning Board, Inman is manager of Deel Motors, and Al Jacobson, a stationer, headed the Traffic and Parking Committee of the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce. Main function of the committee will be to correlate information between the city and the recently created Metro Transit Authority which seeks to create a unified bus system for all Dade County.

Ward Paving Company Is Awarded Contract

Ward Paving Co. was awarded the contract Jan. 24 for paving a portion of Savona between Maggiore and the east property line of Lot 25, Block 121. "Riviera Section." The Coral Gables City Commission authorized the payment of $3613 to Ward.

FIRST CUSTOMER to use the First Bank and Trust Company of South Miami's new half-million-dollar addition was Dr. Julia Lampkin-Hibbard, 7825 SW 57th Ave., South Miami. Welcoming her to the new quarters are Omar E. Stang, president of the bank, and R. C. Nahm, executive vice president and director. The addition opened recently.

Directors Re-Elected

At a recent Board of Directors meeting, University Federal Savings and Loan Association re-elected Don Wessell, well-known contractor, James W. McCaughan, investment broker, and Dr. S. Hill Gordon, prominent Coral Gables dentist, to three year terms on the Board of Directors of the Association.

Gableite Named To Post With Panama Air Line

Norman H. Golden, 1425 Cantoria, has been elected executive vice president of Panama Aeronautica, S.A., new international airline, which will start operating between Miami and Panama in the next two months. Golden holds degrees in aeronautical engineering and administration from Detroit and Purdue Universities as well as in aviation administration from the University of Miami. Flight Training He started his aviation career with flight training at Pensacola and served as a fighter and transport pilot with the Marine Corps in the South Pacific during World War II. After the war he was a pilot and operations engineer for Pan American Airways. He also has been chief engineer and vice president for American Airmotive and Air Carrier Engineering Services and vice president of maintenance and engineering for Riddle Airlines. 15 Years In Gables He and his wife Peggy and their two daughters, Judy and Peggy Lee, have lived in the Gables for the past fifteen years. Golden is a colonel in the Marine Corps Reserve and has the Distinguished Flying Cross with three clusters, Air Medal with four clusters and Presidential Unit Citation.

Gables Automobile Salesmen Honored

Four Coral Gables automobile salesmen were honored recently by their district sales manager. George P. Montagnet, Jacksonville district sales manager for Lincoln - Mercury - Comet, named W. R. Dobson, Al Streacker, John Foster and Don Mulligan among his top salesmen. All four men are employed by Gables Lincoln Mercury, Bird Rd. and Ponce de Leon Blvd. They presented their successful sales techniques to a seminar of Florida Lincoln-Mercury salesmen at the DuPont Plaza Hotel.

Ft. Lauderdale Firm Gets LeJeune Contract

Juno Construction Co., of Fort Lauderdale, was low bidder and received the $12,303 contract award from the City of Coral Gables for relocating sanitary sewer facilities on LeJeune Rd. The work is in connection with widening of LeJeune Rd. There were six bids submitted ranging up to $17,155. Eighty-five per cent of the fresh snap beans consumed in the U. S. are produced in Florida.

Hildreth Elected

Robert Hildreth of the Coral Gables Federal Savings and Loan Association was elected vice president at the recent annual election of the Savings and Loan Public Relations Society of South Florida.
