Clark

Dade Mayor Steve Clark, 53, is campaigning for re-election. The 40-year Miami resident founded Clark Construction Company with his two brothers and is vice-president of the local company. A graduate of Gesu High School, Clark attended University of Miami. He serves as director for a local bank and an insurance company. Clark, a member of Local 2024, an AFL-CIO building and trade's union, is active in Grapeland Heights Civic Association. The organization named its adult community building after him. He is also a member of South Florida Planning and Zoning Commission, American Legion and other civic organizations.

Metro Mayor Gott

A local printer and life-long resident of Dade County, Gary Gott, 28, is seeking election to the office of Mayor, Dade County. The graduate of Miami Carol City Senior High School served two tours in Vietnam as a U.S. Army photographer from 1966 to 1969. Gott, presently a resident of Carol City, is former publisher of South Florida Tennis Talk.

Haddad

A retired detective lieutenant with the City of Miami Police, James Haddad, 49, is a candidate for Dade Mayor. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Haddad attended Miami-Dade Community College for three years. He is a Mason, a Miami Mahi Shriner and a member of Miami Police Benevolent Association. In addition, he is active in the Fraternal Order of Police, American Legion and Disabled American Veterans. Haddad lives in unincorporated Dade County.

District One Brown

Clinton Brown, a consultant with Xerox Corporation, is a contender for District 1 in the Metro Board of Commissioners. A graduate of Florida A & M University in mathematics, Brown has worked for Xerox for five years, starting as a sales representative. He entered the U.S. Army as a second lieutenant in 1959 and was honorably discharged in 1971 at the rank of major. He served in Germany and Vietnam and was Communications and Electronic Advisor to the Imperial Iranian Army. Brown is a member of Urban League, Bahamian-American Federation, AMVETS and Ministers-Laymen Voter Education Organization. A native of Dade County, Brown is the son of Miami's first blacksmith. Brown and his wife Rose reside in Northwest Dade County with their two children.

Ogden

Isabel Ogden, of 3944 SE 167th St. is a candidate for Metro Commission 1.

Schreiber

A local attorney, Barry Schreiber, 33, is a candidate for Metro Commissioner District 1. A Dade County resident since 1969, Schreiber is a graduate of Yeshiva College and Yeshiva Teachers Institute in New York. He attended University of Maryland School of Law. Past president of Young Israel of Greater Miami, he is also regional vice-president of the National Council of Young Israel. He is a Big Brother, founder of Tropic Players theater group, and a member of many legal associations. He and his wife Bunny have three children.

Sipkin

District 1 County Commission candidate George Sipkin, 71, has been a Dade resident for 15 years. Both a lawyer and an engineer, he has served as a patent consultant to the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission, the Dade Planning Advisory Board and the Florida Condominium Commission. A former executive assistant to U.S. Congressman William Lehman, Sipkin has been a patent counsel, a legal advisor to Adm. Hiram Rickover and an assistant to the administrator of the U.S. General Services Administration. He is active in civic affairs with B'nai B'rith, the National Council of Senior Citizens, Concerned Citizens of Northeast Dade and other groups.

Starkman

Milton Starkman, 53, of NE 177th Terrace, resigned as North Miami Beach's Municipal Judge to run for the District 1 County Commission seat. Starkman, who has practiced law since 1954, is a member of Kiwanis, Masons, Shriners, B'nai B'rith, several legal associations and is president of the North Miami Beach Property Owners Association. He is the founder and dean of the Paralegal Institute of Florida, general counsel to the North Dade Chapter of Senior Citizens and a former member of the Dade Zoning Appeals Board. A lecturer and teacher at Florida Tech, Starkman is married and has five children.
