How to obtain discount movie tickets
Discount tickets to Wometco and Florida State Theaters are available through many local charities and to employes of many local businesses. The hitch — with one exception — is that you have to know which charities and businesses bought the bulk rate discount tickets through word of mouth because most theaters and companies won't tell you who is selling the discounts. Wometco says it could be a violation of privacy; Florida State says check with theater managers; businesses only have them for employes and the charities don't want to be besieged with calls. Actually, the reason the charities sell the discount tickets is to make money for their various causes — but, nonetheless, the names aren't publically listed. Many local chapters of B'nai B'rith and Kiwanis handle the tickets. The Kendall Kiwanis participates and tickets from the Coral Gables B'nai B'rith are offered from 11 a.m. to midnight at Jade Gardens Billiards Parlor, 8087 S. Dixie Hwy. The tickets, which will cost you $1.75, are good for admission to a $3 Florida State movie. The charity makes 25 cents for each ticket sold. Wometco doesn't sell actual discount tickets to charities as Florida State does. Instead, it offers a booklet of six one-dollar coupons. The charity pays $4 for the booklet and you pay the charity $5 for it. You save a dollar; the charity makes a dollar and Wometco takes the coupons instead of money at theater box offices.
