Benjamin
Richard for 16 years. Benjamin Emmett Benjamin, 50, a Democratic candidate for State House of Representatives, is a carpenter who has lived and worked in Dade County for 40 years. A graduate of Florida International University, Benjamin also attended University of Miami. Benjamin served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the Aviation Cadet Program following World War II, for the Army of Occupation in Japan in 1949 and during the Korean conflict. Currently he is treasurer of the Board of Directors of ade County Citizens V.D. Public Awareness Committee. He serves as a delegate to the Dade County Carpenters District Council and also to Dade County Ferderation of Labor. Benjamin founded the first Cub Scout Pack at St. Brendan's School and served as first cubmaster. He also helped organize Khoury Leagues of Florida and served as secretary for that organization. He is active in the Democratic Party. Benjamin and his wife Barbara live in Southwest Miami. They have 11 children by former marriages.
Gunn
Jimmy Gunn, 45, director of a local business consultant firm, is a Democratic candidate for House of Representatives District 118. The former publisher of the South Dade Observer established the first Boy Scout troop for youths handicapped by dyslexia, a learning disability. He received the Humanitarian Award from the State of Florida for his work with Volunteers in Probation and Parole. A Marine Corps veteran, Gunn graduated from Gesu High School and attended University of Miami, University of North Carolina, Jacksonville Business College and Motts Junior College in North Carolina. A life-long resident of Miami, Gunn is married and has four children.
Jaski
Jerry Jaski, 40, Democratic candidate for State Representative, District 118 is a practicing attorney in Dade County. Jaski is also a Clinical Professor of Family Medicine teaching at Jackson Memorial and South Dade Community Health Center. At University of Miami School of Law, he is a legal officer, director of placement and an assistant professor. In addition, he is a counselor with the Upward Bound Program and the Youth Corps Program. A graduate of St. Louis University, he received his law degree from De Paul University and University of Miami. Among other community activities, he is a member of local bar associations and Dade Mental Health Association. Jaski resides in South Dade with his wife Theresa and their three children.
Kross
Joseph Kross, 37, a Democratic contender for State Representative District 118, is a station manager for a major international airline at Miami Airport. A long-time resident of the Pineacre area of Kendall, Kross attended DePaul University, Miami-Dade Community College and Florida International University. He is continuing his education at New York Institute of Technology, Nova campus. Kross is former vice-chairman of Miami Airline Management council, and a former member of Miami Beach Tourist Development Host Association. He is presently a member of Delta Nu Alpha and the Airline Executive Club. Kross, his wife and four children are active in St. Catherine of Sienna Church and the Interfaith Church of the Handicapped.
House 119 Black
Hugo Black III, 23, is a Democratic candidate for State Representative District 119. The 14-year Dade County resident graduated from Yale University with a major in history. He attended Palmetto High School. Currently an employe with the First National Bank of Hialeah, Black was a legislative assistant for the 1974 Florida Legislature. He is a member of Common Cause, the Youth Democratic Club, the Juvenile Diabetic Research Foundation and Men's Club of Philharmonic. He is active with St. Andrews Episcopal Church.
Flynn
State Representative Bill Flynn, 59, a realty associate and developer, is seeking re-election to District 119 as a Democrat. A graduate of the University of Miami in business administratrion, he has served in the State House of Representatives since 1974. He served on the Dade County Planning and Zoning Board for four years and on the County Water and Sewer Board from 1963 to 1964. A past director for the Hope School for Mentally Retarded Children, Flynn is affiliated with South Dade Chamber of Commerce, Navy League and other service organizations. He is former vice-president for the Fraternal Order of Police as Associates. He and his wife, Elizabeth have six children.
Milhet
George Milhet, a restaurateur and realtor, is a Democratic candidate for State House of Representatives in District 119. Educated in Cuba, Milhet came to the United States in 1937 and joined the Merchant Marines for a 10-year stint. He moved to Miami in 1956, where he established various restaurant businesses. A member of the South Dade Chamber of Commerce, he is also active in the Kendall-Perrine Board of Realtors and National Society of Fee Appraisers. Milhet is past Grand Master of the Order of Odd Fellows, a former member of the Miami District Planning Advisory Bar Board and former vice-president of Alianza Americana. He actively supports the Leukemia Society of America, United Way and other charitable and religious organizations. Milhet, the father of three daughters and a son, lives in the Sunniland area.
Parris
Johnnie Parris, 43, a Miami resident for over 18 years, is a Democratic candidate for State House of Representives, District 119. A member of five PTSA boards, she has worked as a volunteer for Family Service, Community Center, Kendall Home and Parkway Home. She is on the Board of Directors for the Florida Council on Human Relations and a member of Community Action Agency. Ms. Parris was cited by the National Council of Negro Women, of which she is a member, when she organized the Miami Projects Unlimited,.
