Candidates for Dade's Metro Commission
District Two
Cain Incumbent District 2 Metro Commissioner Harry Cain, 70, of Miami Lakes, has served as chairman of the Community Action Agency, director of Metro's Employ the Handicapped Committee, Director of the South Florida Regional Planning Council, chairman of the Community Relations Board and chairman of the Intergovernmental Relations Committee. He represented the county in the Dade, Florida and National League of Cities and has been a member of the Public Health Trust, Miami Urban Transportation Study and Criminal Justice Advisory Council. His civic activities include Goodwill Industries, United Way, Dade Urban League and the Better Business Bureau. He and his wife, Bonnie, have three children. Oliver William "Bill" Oliver, 43, of Hialeah, is a Metro Commission District 2 candidate. A Florida International University graduate, Oliver is active with building trades and civic organizations. He is a member of the Governor's Council of State Housing Goals, the Housing Action Committee and the Construction Labor Task Force of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce. A Dade resident since 1963, he is coordinator of fringe benefits funds for the Carpenters' District Council of Miami and vicinity. He was chairman of the negotiations that lead to formation of the Miami Plan. Ricketts Thomas Ricketts, 30, a management executive for a local real estate firm, is a candidate for Metro Commission District 2. A graduate of Miami-New Orleans High School, Ricketts took real estate courses at the University of Miami. He financed his mother's college education in lieu of his own. Formerly active with Junior Achievement of Greater Miami, Ricketts is a 15-year Dade County resident. He now resides in Hialeah. Cain Oliver Ricketts
District Three
Adams Metro Commissioner Neal F. Adams, 60, long-time Dade County resident, is seeking to retain his position in District 3. Adams has served on the Crime Commission of Greater Miami, the Zoning Appeals Board and has been very active with Brownsville Improvement Association. A 35-year member of the N.A.A.C.P., he currently holds the post of Regional Coordinator for the Southeast Region of Florida. Owner of a meat market since 1939, Adams attended Lincoln Academy. He is married and has three children. Boles John Boles is a candidate for Metro Commission District 3. Cruz Joe Cruz, 62, a 23-year Dade County resident, is a candidate for Metro Commission, District 3. Cruz earned his degree in government from the University of North Carolina and taught there for three years. A U.S. Marine veteran, Cruz currently resides in Northwest Miami. Johnson Reverend Thedford Johnson, 56, a pastor for 25 years at St. John's Baptist Church, is a candidate for Metro Commission District 3. A ministerial school graduate, Johnson recently resigned from the City of Miami Zoning Board. He is a member and past treasurer of the Cuban Refugee Committee of the United Council of Churches and belongs to the Black Baptists Ministers Association of Dade County. Formerly, he was executive Board member of YMCA and Model Cities. Johnson has twice received the City of Miami Community Services Award and was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation for Community Involvement by Dade Mayor Steve Clark. Johnson is married and has a son and a grandson. Manker William Manker, 43, owner of a funeral home at 2075 NW 54th St., is a candidate for Metro Commission District 3. A graduate of Atlanta College, he is a member of Dade County Morticians Association, AM-VETS and Masons. An 18-year Dade County resident, Manker is single and resides in North Dade. Rolle Wellington Rolle, 43, is a District 3 Metro Commission candidate. He is employed by Local 1115 of the Nursing Home and Hospital Employes Union. His community service includes work with the Civil Defense Advisory Council, Dade Charter Review Board, Florida Council on Human Relations. Dade Transportation Advisory Committee, Dade Young Democrats, Community Action Agency Board, Brownsville Neighborhood Center, Model City Education Task Force and N.A.A.C.P. A member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Rolle attended Florida A & M University and spent ten years in the U.S. Air Force. Adams Boles Cruz Johnson Manker Rolle
